THE Pickle Series
After many pickle paintings and pickle raffles and pickle art products, you may be wondering: “WHY PICKLES??”
(I linked something fun for each time I wrote “pickle”)
Originally when I started the pickle series, I wanted to play on the fact that I strongly dislike them, but every single other person on this planet can never get enough of them. After witnessing the loud excitement over a food that I can’t stand to even take a bite of, I started to think deeper about the reason behind my choice of subject.
While I may not enjoy eating pickles, I have chosen to study and learn more about the different shapes, forms, and brands that they come in. This distaste turned into a newfound appreciation for the food, and I realized that art has the power to transcend personal biases. Through the process of painting these pickles, I explored the concept of embracing paradoxes and challenging personal preferences.
By deliberately painting a subject that contradicts my own tastes, I aim to highlight the importance of venturing beyond our comfort zones, not only in terms of what we consume, but how we choose to think about the things we originally dislike. It is through this exploration that we give ourselves the space to challenge and push our preconceptions to widen our perspectives on these topics.
I hope to inspire others to embrace what we may find unappealing and find enjoyment in unexpected places.
May these pickle paintings incentivize a deeper appreciation for not just the transformative power of art, but also for the true beauty within things we overlook.
I mean, who knows… It could be a dill-light!!
